Echoes of de Chirico: Collaboration between Curtis Stewardson and Sandra Trujillo This collaboration is an extension and simplification of a previous body of drawings we created during an artist-in-residency at OBRAS Foundation in Portugal called “table for two”. It was clear from mid-point that our drawings were destined to become something other than traditional dinnerware. The forms are tangential to service and the imagery is continuous in narrative. The rendering of stable, but failing architecture and surrealistic styled images revealed something to both of us: that every dynamic shift was a specific aesthetic response and a new direction. Immediacy, serious play, and a surrealist reference played into our hands as artists and collaborators. The title of this body of work pays a debt to the great Georgio de Chirico for leading us into the path of impossible paths with looming shadows and dead ends.
